John Francis Schartz, 85, died Friday, June 14, 2024 at his home in Midland, Texas.
He was born Dec. 15, 1938 to Peter and Mary Schartz.
He married Jolynn Gilliss June 13, 1957. She survives.
He graduated from Ellinwood High School in Ellinwood.
He worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 50 years, retiring in 2012 in Midland, Texas.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed following all his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include six children and their spouses: Jorja and Bub Houk, Jean and Jeff Main, Joni and Shawn Swanson, JP and Jamie Schartz, Jeff and Crystal Schartz, and Judy Schartz Miller; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Beth Gray.
• Celebration of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024 at Bellview Baptist Church at 1710 N. Big Spring Street in Midland, Texas, with Pastor Raymond Revilla Jr. presiding.
