Two Satanta individuals were injured, and a Garden City woman was killed in an accident Friday, Jan. 3, in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. Friday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and Parallel Road when a 2019 Ford F550 and 2014 Chevy Equinox were southbound on Hwy. 83.

KHP said a third vehicle, a 2014 F250, was northbound on Hwy. 83, when the Equinox slowed to make left turn onto Parallel Road. The F550 rear-ended the Chevy, pushing it into the northbound lane of travel, and the F250 impacted the driver’s side of the Equinox. KHP said both the F550 and Equinox came to rest on the roadway, with the F250 coming to rest in the ditch to the northeast of the intersection.

The driver of the Chevy, 43-year-old Elizabeth L. Gossman of Garden City, suffered fatal injuries in the accident. She was wearing her seat belt at the time.

A passenger in the Equinox, Ariel Gossman, 14, also of Garden City, was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City with a suspected minor injury. She was also wearing her seat belt.

The F250’s driver, 58-year-old Jon R. Ungles, of Satanta, and a passenger, Catrina L. Ungles, 52, also of Satanta, were also taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The F550’s driver, 23-year-old Cesar H. Pena of Lakin, was also taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital, but KHP said he suffered no apparent injury. He was also wearing his seat belt at the time.
