L&T staff report

The Seward County Five State Fair Association is looking for members.

Currently, there are two active board members on the association, and there needs to be 11. With this in mind, a membership drive will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, on the second floor of the Seward County Administration Building at 515 N. Washington Ave. in Liberal.

Five of the 11 board members are appointed by the county commission, and six are from the association. Those wishing to serve can live in either Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico or Colorado to do so, and those from Kansas can serve from a county other than Seward County.

If the board numbers are not met, future discussion will take place, including:

• What happens to the 112 years of county fair tradition if there are not enough board members;

• What will not having a Seward County fair look like for residents and the Five State region; and

• What happens to funding?
