Those looking for a jump on some holiday shopping and decor will soon have just that chance.
This year's KSCB Holiday Home Show will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, and everything will be happening at the Seward County Activity Center at 810 Stadium Ave. and as KSCB Sales Manager Cheryl Collins tells it, this year’s show will be good for shoppers.
“What's nice about the Holiday Home Show is it's right at the beginning of the holiday season, meaning there are some home improvement vendors, but there are also booths that have gift ideas and holiday decor and those sort of items,” Collins said. “The Holiday Home Show is always just a little more festive in that regard, and it's really nice to see all of that. Our spring show is great, but with that one, people are thinking more along the lines of tackling that spring/summer yardwork and those types of projects while with this show, there's more of that air of festivity and fun and holiday spirit. KSCB-The Legend will also be kicking off the Christmas Cash Countdown promotion, when we're going to be giving away $750 in cash, and Bank of Beaver City is our major partner with that. The finale for the Christmas Cash Countdown will be the evening of Dec. 16 at Bank of Beaver City and in addition to the cash, we're going to have several other prizes available, meaning there will be multiple winners. If you're present when your name is drawn, you'll win $1,000, which will come in very handy. There are multiple businesses where people will be able to register for that between that weekend of the Holiday Home Show and the finale evening, and we'll definitely be promoting that in the coming weeks. With the show itself, we'll have the main hall full of vendors as well as the craft rooms since we're anticipating many, many vendors this time around, almost like a really big mall.”
With the show still a few weeks away, Collins said vendors are still being accepted, and she hopes to see several for this year.
“If you've been thinking, at all, something along the lines of 'We make these neat crafts and we'd love to see more people at something like that,' I would say absolutely go for it and grab a space,” Collins said. “Whether you have a brick-and-mortar business or work out of your home or you're a service business, we would love to see you out at the Holiday Home Show. Especially with today's economy, something I'm hearing from a lot of business owners is how much foot traffic is down and how there aren't as many people going into their store and how much online shopping has affected them. This is a great opportunity to have thousands of people walk through your business in the span of a weekend. Anyone interested in having a booth just needs to call KSCB-The Legend at (620) 624-3891 or email me at
Along with many vendors, Collins said she also hopes to see many shoppers that weekend.
“Like I say with every show, where else can shoppers look at that many stores in one spot all at the same time? There's something for everyone, and it's the perfect chance to see so many different types of businesses all in one spot without having to drive several miles to the nearest mall,” Collins said. “With the variety of businesses that will be there, you're sure to find either something to buy or at least get an idea of what kind of gift to give someone. And if you're making remodeling plans with your cabinets or windows or roof replacement, this show will be a good place to at least start either making those plans or getting ideas, and you'll have the chance to actually talk to these contractors in person. And if you're just browsing, you might walk out with something you didn't originally know you needed, which can sometimes be fun. And everything that will be at the show will be unique and of good quality, so people shouldn't worry about that. There will truly be a little bit of everything out at the show.”
Collins added the show is fun to host every year.
“This is what we do. We provide musical entertainment on the radio, but on the back side of everything, our goal is to bring businesses and consumers together – we can't have one without the other,” Collins said. “This show is one of the ways we can bring lots of consumers and lots of businesses together at one time in one place, and that's why we keep doing this. I'm really looking forward to kicking off our Christmas Cash Countdown promotion, this show is a great time and place to get all of that started. And we plan the show's timing out really well because we do it late enough that we don't interfere with Halloween but we have it early enough that it's not like people have to rush and rush around, and it's also around the time when people are seriously starting to make those holiday plans.”
Overall, Collins said, she is looking forward to another successful holiday show.
“I want to thank everyone who helps us get the word out about this event every year, we couldn't express our appreciation more for that help,” Collins said. “And without the community's support, we wouldn't be able to do events like this – the staff out at the Activity Center is wonderful to work with every show, and we love working with them. We hope to see a lot of people in from not just Liberal but also surrounding towns to do some shopping and kick off some of those holiday plans.”
