Seward County Community College

Seward County Community College Medical Laboratory Technology student Amanda Millea was recently named Outstanding Student by the Kansas branch of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).

Millea, a full-time, second-year student in the program “demonstrates a commitment to learning and successfully completes all course requirements,” MLT Program Director Dr. Suzanne Campbell said. “Ms. Millea spends quality time gaining the knowledge required to be a medical laboratory professional. Her clinical instructors consistently rank her skills above those expected of a student in the current phase of the program.”

A Wyoming resident, Millea accesses the MLT program online; the MLT program pioneered distance learning at SCCC and continuously enrolls students from across the United States.

In keeping with the SCCC commitment to student engagement and success, Millea served as a student representative for the Perkins Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment stakeholder committee.

“She attended all the meetings and came prepared with knowledge and questions,” Campbell said. “I am confident Amanda will graduate in August with her associate of applied science degree in medical laboratory technology and demonstrate competency as an entry level MLT.”
