A Hugoton woman is dead, and two others, one an Elkhart man and one a Wichita teen, were injured in two separate accidents since Thursday in Seward County.
Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2023 Chevy Silverado southbound on Road T and a 2017 Nissan Rogue westbound on U.S. Highway 160.
KHP said the Silverado failed to yield and struck the Nissan. Both vehicles rolled an unknown number of times before coming to rest upright in the west ditch on Road T.
The driver of the Silverado, 19-year-old Nicholas E. Biddle of Wichita, was taken to Southwest Medical Center with a suspected minor injury.
The Nissan’s driver, Jamee E. Perez, 42, of Hugoton, was also taken to SWMC where she died from a fatal injury.
KHP said both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
A second accident took place shortly before midnight Thursday, when a northbound 2006 Freightliner semi tractor on U.S. Highway 83 about five miles north of Liberal struck two cows in the roadway. KHP said the vehicle then went into the east ditch and overturned onto its side.
The driver, 60-year-old Kenton C. Luck of Elkhart, was taken to SWMC with a suspected serious injury. KHP said he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
