Governor Kelly announces more than $1.9M investment for airport infrastructure

Air service is part of the backbone of Kansas, and recently, the State of Kansas announced some funding to help with just that.

Friday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced four Kansas communities have secured more than $1.9 million in infrastructure funding to improve local airports.

“The communities secured more than $1.7 million in federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. Additionally, these projects are receiving almost $200,000 in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Hub and Build Kansas Fund,” Gov. Kelly noted in a release from the State of Kansas. “Kansas’ airports play a vital role in connecting businesses to more opportunities and strengthening local economies. These four projects will improve airport infrastructure while strengthening the state’s transportation network.”

Meade County Craft Fair coming Nov. 16

The weather in Southwest Kansas is now seeing decreasing temperatures reflecting a more seasonable climate for autumn.

The calendar has likewise turned to November, and though Thanksgiving will not be here for another three weeks, many are already getting into the Christmas spirit.

For several years in Meade, holiday enthusiasts have been able to get a head start on shopping, and Saturday, Nov. 16, the community is welcoming back the annual Meade County Craft Fair.

Food producers invited to field tour

Ogallala Commons, a non-profit education and leadership organization, invites local food producers, gardeners and interested public to attend the Local Food Field Tour Thursday, Nov. 14, starting in Liberal from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The tour will provide information, ideas and inspiration for food producers and gardeners, as well as networking opportunities. Attendees will tour a high tunnel and greenhouse production site in Liberal and after lunch make a short drive to Plains to tour another high tunnel production farm.

District recognizes standouts, talks ACT scores

Teacher recognition was the top priority for the USD 480 school board at its most recent meeting Monday evening.

The recognition started during the Good Things part of the meeting, during which Liberal High School math teacher Charito Flores was honored as the Educator of the Month. Shortly afterward, more of the district’s 5 C’s winners were recognized, and Monday’s honorees were Brandi Fowler, Stacy Johnson, Dane Parcel, Jessica Graham, and Leo Sena.

Gifts to Kansas military personnel being collected for Presents in a Package campaign

The holidays can be a tough time for people, especially for military personnel deployed overseas and away from home.

Since 2017, staff with Volunteer Kansas have been putting together Presents in a Package for deployed military personnel, and this year, the tradition will continue.
