Liberal’s Southwest Community Fiesta may be a few months away, but the Cinco de Mayo Committee is already planning this year’s festivities.
The Seward County Commission hosted its most recent town hall meeting Tuesday evening in Kismet, and as with some prior town halls, roads were a big topic of conversation.
Administrator April Warden did bring some good news for the county’s thoroughfares, though.
“Gov. Laura Kelly announced $6.65 million for rural roads safety improvements,” she said. “Seward County was just awarded a High Risk Rural Road grant.”
With temperatures set to soar to 100 degrees and higher in some areas, it is important to take proper precautions should the need to be outdoors arise.
“Heat-related illnesses, like heat exhaustion and heatstroke can be life-threatening and often prevented,” the Mayo Clinic noted. “Heat exhaustion can happen when your body becomes dehydrated and loses too much water and salt, as a result of high temperatures and humidity. Those most at risk are older adults, those with high blood pressure and those who are working outside. Left untreated, heat exhaustion can progress to more severe heat-related illness, a heat-stroke. ELKHART – In celebration of National Grasslands Week, the Cimarron National Grassland invites the public to an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 at the district office.
This event will be at 242 Hwy 56 East in Elkhart. Community members will have an opportunity to meet District Ranger Nancy Brewer and the staff and to learn about current projects and initiatives on the Cimarron.
