Liberal and Hugoton are two communities being targeted as part of a survey to help an area community foundation gain a deeper understanding of its local priorities.
The Western Kansas Community Foundation’s “Our Community, Our Future,” survey which will also be aimed at Cimarron and Lakin, is part of an initiative signaling a new strategy for WKCF in its efforts to serve Southwest Kansas.
Seward County’s fiscal year typically runs from July 1 through June 30, and the past fiscal year saw the retirement of six employees with more than a century of combined experience.
County retirees include Barry Rosengrant with 24 years experience with Road and Bridge, Joe Clay with 22 years working at the fairgrounds, Patti Kirk working 26 years with the county, most recently with EMS, Mike Christian with 15 years at the landfill, Colleen Towns with 12 years in the appraiser’s office and Wanda Covert, who worked 14 years as a child care surveyor with the Seward County Health Department.
Dan and Mary Lu Coventon, missionaries from Honduras for the past 40 years, will be speaking at 10 a.m. Sunday at Faith Tabernacle Church at 514 N. Kansas.
Come and enjoy their company and hear what’s happening on their journey with God.
There will be a covered dish luncheon at the end of services.

Russell W. Hasenbank (R) has filed his intent to run for the office of Seward County Attorney.
Seward County Community College invites the public to meet two finalists for the newly created Vice President of Career Tech Education. Dr. Amber Jones, currently the SCCC Dean of Career & Technical Education, and Dr. Christiaan B. Desmond, currently Dean of Consumer & Health Sciences at Orange Coast College of Costa Mesa, Calif., will interview during the first week of June.
