OPSU Communications recognized nationally

The communications department at an area college was recognized nationally recently as part of the 2023 Collegiate Advertising Award, and the recognition helped Oklahoma Panhandle State University secure placement in the top 5 percent nationwide across various categories.

The OPSU Communications Department’s creativity and strategic marketing efforts garnered Gold and Silver awards for outstanding achievements in advertising and promotion.

The Collegiate Advertising Awards is an elite program recognizing higher education organizations for excellence in communications, marketing, advertising and promotion of universities nationwide.

Grace Place to host ‘Run Baby Run’ event

This Saturday, Liberal’s Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center is giving running enthusiasts a chance to help raise money to help with the center’s operating costs.

The center is hosting its annual Run Baby Run event this weekend, with registration time scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday and race time at 9 a.m., both at the center at 311 N. Grant Ave.

Participants can choose from the one-mile walk, the 5K run and the 10K run, and Grace Place Director Letty Hernandez said she is excited for Saturday.

“We’re hoping we get a lot of people to come out and enjoy a nice day, some exercise and ultimately help fund Grace Place so we can continue to serve the women and families who are in need of our services,” she said.

2024 KSCB Springfest Home Show coming April 27-28

Spring has sprung upon the area, which means many people will be working on home improvement projects or getting ideas for spring-themed gifts.

People will be able to get a head start on that thanks to KSCB-The Legend next weekend. This year's Springfest Home Show will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, and everything will be at the Seward County Activity Center at 810 Stadium Ave. Coordinator Cheryl Collins said there will be a lot for people to take in that weekend.

LPD seeking suspect Calleja

The Liberal Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an individual wanted in Seward County for several counts of sexual exploitation of a child, electronic solicitation and aggravated sexual battery.

LPD said Adolfo Marcus Calleja, a 33-year-old Hispanic male, is believed to have left the Liberal area when became aware of the criminal investigation.

“If you have information about Mr. Calleja’s whereabouts, please call the Liberal Police Department at 620-626-015- or remain anonymous by calling 620-624-4000,” a release from LPD said. “You may also submit tips to the U.S. Marshals Service at www.usmarshals.gov.”
