At many events in the Liberal community, Alana King can be seen either helping behind the scenes or chatting it up with other patrons to those events.
King’s involvement in the community can be traced back to a very young age, and that involvement has continued to even now.
Economic development continues to happen throughout Southwest Kansas, with one of those projects officially opening this past weekend.
Saturday, Gov. Laura Kelly joined federal, state, and local officials to officially mark the opening of Hilmar Cheese Company's new production facility in Dodge City. Founded in 1984, Hilmar Cheese Company is one of the world’s largest producers of high-quality cheese and whey products. Hilmar joins a long line of food production companies investing in Kansas since the start of the Kelly Administration.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Westlake Ace Hardware is proud to recognize Shannon Howard, general manager of its Liberal location, with the company’s Helpful Hearts Award.
The award honors Westlake Ace associates who passionately lead and serve others in their communities.
“Shannon’s dedication to both her team and community is truly inspiring,” said Tom Craft, district manager Westlake Ace Hardware. “She naturally fosters a spirit of teamwork and service, making a meaningful impact every day. We are thrilled to honor her with this well-deserved recognition.”
There have been multiple Liberal High School alumni who have gone on to receive honors after graduation and recently, another one added to the list.
Earlier this month, it was announced Brady Kappelmann was elected as the Kansas State University (KSU) student body president. As Kappelmann tells it, he has been busy during his time at college before hitting the campaign trail.
