Liberal officially has a new permanent city manager with Scarlette Diseker.
Diseker, who started with the City of Liberal in 2022, was officially approved in the position at the most recent Liberal City Commission meeting, and as she tells it, she is ready to continue her work.
The Seward County Development Corporation has many resources to help local businesses grow and develop, and recently, they added a new piece to the puzzle to further help with getting and keeping businesses in the community.
After seeing a need for guidance with cash flow, financial projection, understanding assets and liabilities and bookkeeping, SCDC Entrepreneurship Director Raquel Areallano said leaders with the corporation created a financial services specialist position.
Pancake Day will be approaching quickly, and a big part of the day’s festivities is the parade.
With that in mind, the Pancake Day Committee is accepting parade float entries. The Pancake Day Parade will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, and will go the same route as the 4th of July parade and start at Trail Street and then go north. This year's theme is 'Bringing Everyone Together With Pancakes,' and the five divisions are Commercial, Non-Profit Organizations, Schools, Antique Automobiles & Equipment, and Motorized Vehicles, and the judges will score the entries on originality, creativity and effort.
For more than a century, Girl Scouts across America have been selling cookies to raise money for troop projects and to support troops and councils.
February is here, and soon, young ladies will once again be selling the tasty treats everywhere, including Southwest Kansas, where Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Troop Engagement Specialist Michelle Daniels and Product Program Specialist Jaclyn Vargas are gearing up for this year’s sales.
Daniels said all of the traditional favorite flavors of cookies will be available this year, but 2025 is the swan song for one of the newer flavors.
Emergency response teams are an extremely important source of help when a disaster strikes and recently, Liberal’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been working hard training for just that.
