Lawmakers in Washington have been keeping busy recently, and some of that work had some help from Sen. Jerry Moran.

One of Moran’s recent bill introductions was for a permanent tax break for small businesses, which he introduced with 33 colleagues.

“Kansas small businesses support rural and urban communities across the state,” Moran noted in a release from his office. “By making this small business tax break permanent, businesses across the nation will be able to remain open, retain hard-working employees and help the areas around them thrive.”

K-State Research and Extension Wild West Extension District – Stevens County

A corn and sorghum production meeting will be in Hugoton Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at the 4-H building, 1130 S. Trindle, on the Stevens County Fairgrounds.

The free agronomy informational meeting is sponsored by K-State Research and Extension and American Implement of Hugoton.

The Noon Kiwanis Club of Liberal invites members of the community to take part in the “Freedom Heritage” flag project.

The sight of the United States flags proudly waving along Kansas Avenue has become a familiar and beloved symbol to many. These flags are displayed on Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day. Additionally, “Welcome” flags are shown during special events like Pancake Day and the Five State Fair.

Liberal High School students will not see a change in scheduling starting in the 2025-26 school year, but discussions will continue on the matter, thanks to action by the USD 480 school board at a special meeting Friday afternoon.
