LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Sheryl Hall, Liberal

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

On Sat, Oct. 18, Liberal has the opportunity to join the National “No Kings” day of peaceful protest. Of the many unprecedented actions of our current president and his regime, surely the most pressing issue is the rounding up of humans who have brown skin, the majority of which are perfectly legal. Documented, full citizens, even natural born citizens have had their lives and that of their families upended, many sustaining injuries.

If you have not by now seen the countless video accounts of extreme unnecessary roughness and injury to people from the very young to the very old, and the folks who have “done it the right way” having their paperwork revoked, you are watching a news source that ignores this injustice and you have yet to see the truth.

He wrongly uses our own military against its citizenry. The bar being lowered for employment of ICE agents invites a dangerous element. Whichever side of the coin you come up on regarding the issue of the undocumented, lack of due process is un-American and cruel.

Now, even journalists and peaceful bystanders exercising their right to speak out are included in this. No one is against finding and capturing the “worst of the worst” but that’s simply not what’s happening for the most part. Los Angeles was not “burning to the ground” nor are Chicago or Portland. This is chaos and not what the USA is about.

Other than this issue, we have a president who bragged on having barged in on naked young girls in a girls dressing room, has taken the life savings of hardworking people who trusted his name on investments while he drained them, took money from a charity, operated a fake university and unleashed DOGE assuring the starvation of many who were sustained by a minuscule fraction of our budget plus the end to many other worthwhile entities. He ordered the taking and destroying of the only possessions of homeless people. He demonizes immigrants and especially the roughly half of our country who are Democrats with lies and disgusting names. He blatantly ignores the law including the orders of judges.

I could go on.

We don’t even need the Epstein files. We know who he is.

On Sat, Oct 18, at 11 a.m., myself and others will meet on the corner of Kansas Avenue and Fifteenth Street peacefully protesting this madness. We hope you’ll join us. We hope to have music. Bring posters and a peaceful, festive attitude. Costumes are optional.

  • Now is the time Liberal. You should show up to voice your displeasure with this administration and its criminal, rapist leader. Yes, he is a rapist, he has been convicted by a jury of his peers. If you care about this country and it’s constitution, you need to protest and make your voice heard.

  • Anybody who feels that their rights have been violated should file a lawsuit.  No need to march around with your chests all puffed out pretending that you're accomplishing something.  Do something useful, go wash some dishes or make your husband a sandwich.
