The Seymour Rogers Apaches started the football season with a pair of wins Thursday over the Comanche Coyotes.
The seventh grade Apaches opened the season with a runaway 46-0 win.
The Apaches relied on Aidan Aragon and Kaden Olvera to move the ball behind a line that opened holes and provided down field support for huge gains.
The Apaches committed several penalties in the first game of the season, but once they were able to eliminate the miscues, they were able to put points on the board. The Apaches had a 30-0 lead at halftime, and the second half moved quickly with the running clock.
Still, the Apaches reached the end zone two more times for the 46-0 win.
The Apache eighth grade fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter before rallying for the win.
The Apaches tied the game 6-6 with a 90-yard run on the last play of the first half.
The Apaches took a 14-6 lead late in the third quarter, and the Apache defense was able to contain power Comanche runner Angel Cerda to protect the lead.
The Coyotes had a chance for a tying drive in the fourth quarter after stopping the Apaches at the Comanche 2 yard line, but the Apaches tackled Cerda in the end zone for a safety on the first play of the drive to take a 16-6 lead.
The Apaches held on to secure the win, and Seymour Rogers started the year 1-0.
