L&T staff report

After knocking off Derby 3-1 in the season opener in the Titan Classic, the Liberal Redskins soccer team has moved to 3-0 with two more wins.

The Redskins won their second game with an 8-0 mercy rule win over Wichita Heights.

The win was the first mercy rule win for the Redskins under the new eight-goal rule. The previous rule required 10 goals.

Suain Moncayo scored three goals for the Redskins in the win, and the Redskins had a 4-0 lead at half.

Liberal added four more goals in the second half to enact the mercy rule.

Liberal then opened the Western Athletic Conference portion of its season Thursday in Great Bend and came away with a 6-0 win.

Moncayo scored the first goal on a penalty kick after a hand ball was called against the Panthers in the box.

Moncayo scored again a few minutes later, and Joseph Salazar added the third goal of the game for the Redskins for a 3-0 lead.

The Redskins continued to outpace the Panthers and added three more goals to claim the 6-0 lead.

The Redskins return to Wichita Saturday to face the Maize Eagles in the Wichita Titan Classic.
