The Eisenhower Warriors and Great Bend Panthers each scored three touchdowns Thursday at Warrior Field, but the Panthers were able to score one conversion while the Warriors didn’t, and that turned out to be the difference in a 20-18 Warrior loss.
The Panthers started the scoring to take an 8-0 lead, but the Warriors responded with a score but couldn’t get the point after and trailed 8-6.
Midway through the third quarter, Cristian Moreno broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors a 12-8 lead. But the Panthers answered with a kickoff return for a touchdown on the very next play to regain the lead 14-12.
Great Bend went on a drive that was aided by two offsides penalties and a facemask on fourth down, and the Panthers were able to cash in with a touchdown.
The Panthers could have put the game out of reach with the point after, but the Warriors stopped them short, and Great Bend had a 20-12 lead.
The Warriors responded with a two-minute drive that ended with a Moreno touchdown with 23 seconds to play. But the Panthers stopped the point after to hold on for the 20-18 victory.
