Xavier Porras carried the ball 25 times for 269 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Liberal Redskins to a 56-0 rout over Guymon, Okla., in a renewal of the Highway 54 Clash.
Alex Schwindt scored the first touchdown for the Redskins on a four-yard run, and after a Guymon punt, Porras topped an 11-play drive with a 13-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 Liberal lead.
After Liberal’s only drive that did not end in a score dies at the Guymon 29 yard line, Schwindt intercepted a Guymon pass to give the offense another chance.
Porras scored five plays later with a six-yard run to the end zone.
Ayden Juarez intercepted a Guymon pass on the next possession, and Anthony Aragonez caught a three-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone for a 28-0 Liberal lead.
The Redskins closed out the first half with a seven-play, all-run drive that ended with a one-yard plunge into the end zone by Schwindt, and the Redskins had a 35-0 lead.
Porras only needed two plays on Liberal’s first possession of the second half to push the lead to 42-0 with runs of 13 and 38 yards.
Guymon earned two first downs on its next possession before the drive stalled, and after a punt the Redskins went 80 yards in eight plays and capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Mannel for a 49-0 Liberal lead to enact the running clock.
Andy Nguyen intercepted another Guymon pass, and six plays later Porras lined up in the Wildcat formation and ran to his right before stopping and throwing a pass into the end zone to Marco Alonzo for a one-yard touchdown and a 56-0 lead.
Guymon tried to get on the board on the final drive of the game but Miguel Vargas was sacked by Xavier Tafoya as the final seconds ticked off the clock, and the Redskins moved to 3-0.
Porras led the Redskins with 269 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.
Schwindt had 38 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Mannel rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
Tevin Cotter was five for 13 for 50 yards and a touchdown. Porras was one for one for one yard and a touchdown.
“We need another couple of kids to come back,” Liberal coach Bryan Luetters said. “We were being cautious tonight. James (Fieser) didn’t play,. He could have but we wanted to hold him back. Tevin was back. He only played a half against North. He needed some experience. The defense was really good.”
As far as off the field, Luetters said Guymon and Liberal did not exchange film, and Guymon backed out of the junior varsity game to play someone else, leaving Liberal without a game until opting to travel to Derby.
“It’s not a real friendly rivalry,” Luetters said.
The Redskins (3-0) will host Dodge City (2-1) at 7 p.m. Friday for Homecoming.
