The Seward County Community College women’s basketball team could not survive a shooting night of under 20 percent and suffered a 57-53 road loss to Cloud County Community College Wednesday.

The Lady Saints fell to 0-1 in the Jayhawk Conference and 4-2 overall on the season. The Lady Saints next play at Cowley College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

The Lady Saints managed to stay within striking distance through the free-throw line, going 10-of-12 in the second quarter, and only trailed 24-18 at halftime.

The Lady Saints were down 44-38 after three quarters and then made a move.

Down by as many as nine in the final quarter, Seward started chipping away and closed to within five with just over a minute remaining. Kylee Hunt hit a pair of free throws and Biyyanah Ellis nailed a three-pointer to help the Lady Saints knot the game at 53 with 51 seconds left.

SCCC could not complete the comeback as Cloud scored the final four points to close the game.

Hunt had 17 points and Allie Myers netted 10 to pace the Lady Saints who were 71 percent from the free-throw line (23-of-32) and 26 percent from three-point range (6-of-23).

TiAna Davis and Lilliana Petersen each had 11 points and Talasia Thomas scored 10 to pace Cloud County, which improved to 1-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall.
