The Lady Redskins couldn’t find the basket in the first half against Garden City Tuesday but rallied in the second half to escape with a 44-41 win over the Lady Buffaloes.
The Lady Redskins struggled to make shots in the first half, and while the defense continued to make shots difficult for Garden City, the lack of offense left Liberal trailing 17-11 at half.
The Lady Redskins continued to chase the Lady Buffaloes for most of the second half until the Lady Redskins had their first lead since the opening moments of the game.
But Garden City kept the game close down the stretch and had several chances to take the lead.
Liberal had opportunities to put the game away at the free throw line but missed several shots at the line down the stretch.
Garden City attempted two three-point shots in the final seconds but missed, and Zoey Torres was able to make two free throws in the final six seconds to give the Lady Redskins a 44-41 win.
Kylie Rhine led the Lady Redskins with 17 points. Shamari Lewis had 10, and Torres scored nine.
The Lady Redskins moved to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in the WAC and travel to Dodge City Friday.
