The Liberal Wrestling Club hosted their home tournament, Battle in the West, Saturday. There were wrestlers that came in from four different states - Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado. The club is hoping to reach out to make next year’s event a five state showdown to include New Mexico.
LWC had many young wrestlers that wrestle for their club compete at this tournament.
“It is always a hectic but rewarding day. It is great to bring in hundreds of wrestlers and their families for the day. It is a big thing to put together but thanks to our parents, wrestlers, coaches, sponsors and volunteers, it was a huge success,” Tournament Director Krista Holcomb said.

Garden City Wrestling Club hosted its tournament Sunday, and Liberal Wrestling Club took eight young wrestlers to participate in the tournament.
“(We) had a great time — fierce competitive opponents that gave our wrestlers different styles to experience. In all, I believe everyone had a positive experience,” Coach Mario Zuniga said.

Liberal Wrestling Club has one month until they head to the District 4 competition in Hays to see how many qualify for the state competition.
Liberal Wrestling Club travels to Mulvane Friday and Saturday for the Battle of the Belt tournament.
