After an impressive 81-49 win over Pratt in the opening round of the Region 6 playoffs, the Seward County Lady Saints had a tough road challenge against No. 3 seed Coffeyville, and despite coming back to take a second half lead, the Lady Saints fell 61-50.
The Lady Saints had a slow start, and Coffeyville jumped out to a near double digit lead at 15-6 after the first quarter.
But the Lady Saints responded with a run that gave them the lead early in the second quarter.
Coffeyville was able to stop the Lady Saint run, and by halftime the Lady Ravens had regained the lead, 28-23.
Coffeyville quickly pushed the lead back to nine and at one time had a 12-point lead before the Lady Saints started to reel the Lady Ravens in.
By the end of the third quarter the Lady Saints trailed by nine, 44-35.
Seward put together another run and didn’t allow Coffeyville to put the game out of reach.
Seward cut Coffeyville’s lead to 56-50 with three minutes to play, but the Lady Saints missed five free throws down the stretch and a pair of lay-ups didn’t go through the basket, and that forced the Lady Saints to start fouling.
Seward didn’t score in the final three minutes, and that led to the 61-50 loss.
Ari Gordon and Allie Myers each scored 10 points to lead the Lady Saints, and Chloe Burnham came off the bench to score nine.
The loss dropped Seward to 20-12 on the season.
Karys Washington led Coffeyville with 23 points. Norika Welch had 13.
Coffeyville advanced to the semi-finals and will face Hutchinson at Gross Memorial Stadium in Hays. The winner of that game will play the winner of the match-up between Dodge City and Butler.
