The Lady Redskins completed the three-game sweep over the Dodge City Lady Red Demons Friday at the National Beef Family Sports Complex and secured a winning season at 14-12.
Liberal had a shaky start on defense and committed several errors that allowed Dodge City to score a run in the first inning without a hit. But the Lady Redskins responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Redskins added a pair of runs in the second inning to push the lead to 4-1, and freshman Haiden Lyon completed her three-inning outing with a scoreless third. She ended her day allowing one unearned run on no hits, one walk and striking out four.
Freshman Allie Champion took the circle in the fourth and tossed a shutout inning.
The Lady Redskins took advantage of defensive miscues by the Lady Red demons in the fourth and pushed five runs across the plate to take a 9-1 lead.
Champion pitched a second shutout inning, and the Lady Redskins put runners on base in the fifth and pushed a run across the plate with Taylor Harding at third as the game-ending run. Dodge City threw a passed ball, and Harding slid home to secure the run-rule win, 11-1.
Liberal finished as the eighth seed in the Class 6A West Division and will likely face Wichita South.
