GUYMON, Okla. — The Guymon Tigers couldn’t have asked for a better start to Friday’s game against Liberal, but once the Redskins turned a corner, they never looked back in a 52-13 Redskin win.

The first three minutes were a disaster for the Redskins. Guymon kicked off a short bloop, and the Redskins didn’t cover the ball. Guymon fell on the loose ball and three plays later reached the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

Tevin Cotter threw an interception on Liberal’s first play from scrimmage, and four plays later the Tigers converted a fourth and 12 for a 17-yard touchdown pass to take a 13-0 lead.

But the Redskins took over from there starting with a 60-yard, eight play drive that ended with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Cotter to James Fieser.

Early in the second quarter, Fieser caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, and the game was tied 13-13.

After a Redskin interception, Blayden Betts had a three-yard run for  touchdown to give the Redskins a 19-13 lead.

Fieser caught a 43-yard pass for a touchdown on Liberal’s next drive, and the Redskins led 26-13 at half.

Cotter ran for a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give the Redskins a 33-13 lead, and Xavier Tafoya bulled in to the end zone from seven yards out for a 39-13 Liberal lead.

Betts scored his second touchdown on a 22-yard run, and he caught a pass for a nine yard touchdown reception for a 52-13 lead.

The win moved Liberal to 3-0 on the season and will start the Western Athletic portion of the season Friday when they travel to Dodge City to face the Red Demons (2-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
