After their first loss of the season last Thursday against Garden City the Liberal High School soccer team looked to bounce back against Life Prep.

The Redskins jumped on the scoreboard first with Gio Berrera finding the net 4:44 into the half with a nice assist from D’Alessadro Chavira.

Unfortunately after the nice start the Redskins started to struggle getting anything put together. At the 23:03 mark Josh Garcia found Diego Pavia just outside the box for the Redskins second goal. The Redskins continued to try to find their rhythm with a couple starters out due to injury.

In the later part of the second half goalie Diego Flores stepped up after Liberal was called for a hand ball in the box and saved a penalty kick. That sparked a little momentum and the Redskins were able to add two goals in the last three minutes of the half. One by Johnny Young with an assist from Ariel Gaytan and then Ariel got his own goal with an assist from Josh Garcia his second of the half. After halftime the game was back and forth as neither team really controlled the ball or kept possession.

Life Prep earned a corner kick and after the ball bounced around inside the box, one of the Life Prep players was able to knock it in to make the score 4-1. The Redskins for that goal back quickly and less than a minute after the goal at the 18:14 mark Chavira found Pavia on a long run to make the score 5-1.

Throughout the game Liberal looked to build depth by using the bench more than normal and with less than 3 minutes left they was called for a foul inside the box. Life Prep converted on that penalty kick and the game ended with a 5-2 Redskin win.

The boys soccer team is now 7-1 (2-1 WAC) and will face Lamar today at home.
