Dodge City — Liberal High School sophomore Scarlett Carr qualified for the 2025 KSHSAA 6A State Girls Golf Tournament at Hesston Golf Club in Hesston, Kansas next Monday and Tuesday. Carr shot a 107 on the windy Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City on Monday to earn a berth at the State Tournament.
The Western 6A Sub-State included No. 1 Manhattan, No. 6 Garden City, No. 9 Wichita Southeast, No. 17 Derby, No. 18 Dodge City, No. 20 Campus, and No. 26 Liberal; Campus fielded only three golfers and Liberal had only two - Carr and senior Adamaris Lopez. Carr started the day on the back-9 with a par-4 on No. 10. She played fairly steady through the next 10 holes with only a couple of bad holes on No. 13 and No. 1. With her situation in question, Carr reeled off five bogies over the final seven holes to cement her place at Hesston.
“We are really proud of Scarlett and happy for her,” Liberal coach Bert Luallen said. “She played so steady down the stretch. She was so excited when we told her that she had qualified for State.”
Carr shot a career best 106 at the season's first tournament in Hays but seemed to struggle during the rest of the season. Then she put things together on Monday.
“I have to give credit to Assistant Coach Brent Lansden,” stated Luallen. “He stayed with her all day, while I walked with Addy. He really helped keep her mind clear and focused.”
