Marchino earns KJCC Player of the Week Award
Seward County women's basketball sophomore guard Avery Marchino has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Marchino, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., is the first Seward County women's basketball student-athlete to earn the weekly honor since Zayla Tinner earned it in week one of the 2021-22 season.
Marchino poured in 57 total points across two games at the New Mexico Junior College Classic last weekend as the Lady Saints went 1-1 over the weekend. Marchino finished with a career-high 33 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists in Seward's overtime loss at 11th-ranked New Mexico Junior College on Friday night before scoring 24 points and adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the Lady Saints' 52-point win over Dallas College Cedar Valley.
Marchino has scored in double figures in all six games this season, scoring 20-plus four times and 25-plus three times. She enters KJCCC play averaging 22.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Marchino joins Seward volleyball sophomore outside hitter Mariana Silva and women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Caroline Benck in winning KJCCC weekly awards during the 2025-26 season.
