ULYSSES – Irene Chavez, 90, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 at her home in Garnett.
She was born Sept. 10, 1933 to Enrique and Clara (Hernandez) Saucedo.
She married Simon N. Chavez October 5, 1952. He preceded her in death.
She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos, and time spent with her family and friends meant the most to her.
Survivors include her children: Bobby Chavez and wife, Rosa, Las Vegas, Danny Chavez, Joplin, Mo., Becky Partida and husband, Freddy, Garnett, Simon Chavez Jr. and wife, Grace, Ulysses, Rose Rodriquez and husband, Richard, Brownfield, Texas, Stella Chavez, Ulysses, and Virginia Pauda and husband, Danny, Wichita; siblings: Francis Contreras, Andrea Ramirez, Juan Saucedo, Rosa Molina and Hector Saucedo; 51 grandchildren; 160 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ester Chavez; son, Ricky Chavez; grandson, Ejon Velardes; and siblings: Abel, Jesse, Henry and Linda Saucedo.
• Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.
