Gwyneth L. Nelson, 69, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.
She was born Aug. 30, 1955 to Raymond and Louise Bassett.
She married Terry A. Nelson Aug. 12, 1979. He survives.
She attended school in K-2nd grade at Sibley IL and Minok-Dana-Rutland, graduating from ROVA High School in Oneida Ill. She later furthered her education, receiving her degree in Special Education - deaf and hard of hearing from MacMurray College and later her masters of sign language communication from AIU. She taught deaf education for K-12 in Dodge City and for the Southwest Kansas Cooperative for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, genealogy, karate (having earned her fifth degree black belt making her instructor level), participating in music ministries at church and spending time with family and friends.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors also include her children: Gretchen DeMueth, Jacob Nelson, Caleb Nelson, Zebedee Nelson, and Abigail Mather; brothers, Nathan Bassett (Tonya), and Cameron Bassett (Kim); sisters, Michelle Knaack (Joe), and Melissa Whitaker; and 12 grandchildren.
• Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
