Amanda Martinez, 62, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 at her home in Liberal.
She was born April 27, 1962 to Romulo Martinez Guzman and Maria del Refugio Hernandez de Santiago in Emiliano Zapata, Durango, Mexico.
She married Martin Calderon March 24, 2018. He survives.
She earned a bachelor's degree, which served as the foundation for her long career as a dedicated educator whose career spanned more than three decades, working as a teacher in Mexico for 30 years and then as a paraprofessional for USD 480 in Liberal at Meadowlark Elementary School.
She was very proud of becoming a United States citizen two years ago, which she worked very hard for.
She was known as a loving and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother, and she will forever remain alive in the stories shared by her family and students.
Survivors include her parents; daughter, Nayeli Rivera Martinez; three brothers: Julio Cesar Martinez Hernandez, Rafael Martinez Hernandez, and Macario Martinez Hernandez; sister, Irma Martinez Hernandez; and four grandchildren: Bryanna Loya, Jonathan Loya, Christina Arzate, and Oliva Arzate.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Hugo Martinez Hernandez.
• Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 at New Beginnings Church at 2021 N. Western Avenue in Liberal, with Pastor Phillip Dow presiding.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W 2nd Street in Liberal.
