Adena Towner, 95, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2024 at Pioneer Manor, in Hugoton.
She born May 13, 1929 to Sam and Ruth Kostreva in Pound, Wisc.
She married Dwain Towner July 13, 1957. He preceded her in death.
She was the consummate farmer’s wife maintaining the household, raising children, and keeping the books for the farm. Early in her homemaking career she was involved with the Stevens County extension. Later in life she dedicated herself through volunteer work to the Hugoton community, working with hospice for 23 years and Project Hope for 20 years. In 2006 both her and Dwain were recognized for their community services with a “Kansas Volunteer of The Year Award” from the Kansas Volunteer Commission.
Survivors include daughter, Dena Ruth; son, Melvin; sisters, Grace Riggs and Sarah Tucker, brother, Otto Kostreva; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Samuel Kostreva, Daniel Kostreva, Paul Kostreva, James Kostreva, Lucille Mason and Eunice (Beth) Thompson; and nephew, Jeffrey Thompson.
• Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Okla.
