Paul M. Quiring, 49, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.

He was born on May 14, 1975 to Leo and Jeanie Munoz. At 3 years old, he became a member of the Quiring family. His parents are David and Lillian (Dick) Quiring of Liberal.

He was an active participant at the Calvary Mennonite Church in Liberal. He enjoyed music and sang with enthusiasm.

He attended Lincoln Pre-school/Elementary School, West Middle School, and Liberal High School and volunteered at the Liberal Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mid-America Air Museum, and Liberal Memorial Library.

After high school, longtime caregivers expanded his world making community participation a reality, and he made new friends at Burger King, Braum's, Dillon's, the Liberal Recreation Center, the Et Cetera Shop, Circle D Appliance, the community college, Southwest Medical Center, and other businesses and eateries. He loved daily car rides, playing with cards and cash registers, listening to stories and music, and talking on his "phone".

He also enjoyed shouting greetings to neighbors and friends and customers within the community, inquiring about their children and pets, and being an engaged listener. He never forgot the name of any person and frequently gave nicknames to his friends. Sticky notes conveying messages of love, hope, and encouragement have been hand delivered to hundreds of people.

Survivors include sisters, Stacy Cunha, Liberal, and Sheri (David) Witzke, Liberal; aunts, Ruth Anne (Jacob) Abraham, Austin, Texas, and Patty (Jim) Apperson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; three cousins: Damion Low, Wichita, Nathan Abraham, Austin, Texas, and Sarah Abraham, Austin, Texas; five nieces and nephews: Jacque Schrag, Derek Schrag, Matthew Schrag, Billy Cunha, Connie Cunha and Paige Witzke; caregivers, Sherry Miller, Rogers, Ark., and Danita Buchman, Tyrone, Okla.; and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Rosa Quiring; maternal grandparents, Bill and Ruth Dick; and his uncle, Donald Quiring.

  • I first met Paul when he came into Rocking T Nurseries Garden Center; a thoroughly delightful little boy. Later I connected with him at school and through a mutual friend. He was always so eager to greet me by name each time we met. Paul was always a sweet young man and kind to all. While his friends and family will miss him dearly, you just know Heaven is brighter following his arrival there!  My condolences to all who knew and loved him.
