James Jay "Jim" Earnest, 73, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Liberal.  

He was born Aug. 29, 1951 to Donald and Florence (Boxberger) Earnest.

He was a graduate of Liberal High School with the Class of 1969.

After graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a tank commander and buck sergeant in Germany.

He worked as a truck driver for Booker Transportation out of Booker, Texas, and was also an owner/operator for many years.

He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and loved riding in poker runs and making trips to Strurgis on his Heritage Classic Softail.

He was a life member of the VFW.

Survivors include stepdaughters, Crystal Ratzlaff, Turpin, Okla., and Jennifer Montenegro, League City, Texas; four sisters: Sharla Diane Juvenal, Oklahoma City, Linda LeBlanc, Longview, Texas, Dawana Grow, Wichita, and Shona Ratzlaff, Wichita; and three brothers: Marvin Earnest, Moriarty, N.M., Gerald Earnest, and Ronald Earnest, Buffalo, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Stanphill; and partner of 20 years, Terri Delay.

• Per Jim's wishes, there will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
