Rodney Paul Urwin, 71, died Friday, June 27, 2025 at his home in Liberal.

He was born Nov. 4, 1953 to Lynn and Mary (Gechter) Urwin.

He married Gwendolyn (McAdams) Urwin Jan. 1, 1996. She preceded him in death.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army, with notable service in Germany.

He dedicated his career to law enforcement, having retired from the Liberal Police Department, where he found great fulfillment in his role.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and crafting his beer, wines, and sodas.

Survivors include son, Kenneth Urwin and wife, Peggy, Brantford, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Mariya Smith and husband, Rob, Satanta; brother, Carol Urwin and wife, Theresa, Shelby Township, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert (Bob) Anderson; and niece, Stephanie Urwin.

• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Liberal.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Fort Dodge.
