Beryl I. Scranton, 87, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 at Homestead Estates in Liberal.  

He was born July 3, 1938 to Ira and Gladys (Bates) Scranton.

He married Judith Kaye Harrel May 10, 1961. She preceded him in death June 21, 2025.

He was a graduate of Hugoton High School with the Class of 1956.

He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1957 to 1963.

In March of 1961 he moved to Liberal, where he started working for Schlumberger, then with Western Power for 14 years. He later worked as a corrosion technician at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. for 18 years from which he retired. He went on to work as a pipeline inspector painting and corrosion inspecting until 1998 then drove cars for several dealerships in Liberal for 17 years, from 2001 to 2018.

He enjoyed trail riding, riding snowmobiles, hunting for and collecting arrowheads, camping, and fishing.

Survivors include daughters, Sheri (Jack) McDowell, and Stacey (Scott) Sandell; and grandsons, Dylan (Morgan) Sandell and Hunter Sandell.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Merle Scranton; and sister, Retta Arlene Scranton.

• Funeral services and Masonic Rites will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Rex Petty presiding. Masonic Rites will be performed by the Liberal Masonic Lodge Fargo 300.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 80.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, with the family present to greet friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
