Marcille LaNita (Reiss) Birney, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026 at Johnson County Health and Rehab in Clarksville, Ark.

She was born Aug. 20, 1934 to Helena (Fowler) and Oscar Frank Reiss.

She graduated from Liberal High School in 1953.

She married Robert Frank Birney Feb. 26, 1953. He preceded her in death.

She loved to cook, loved to entertain, and loved having a house full of people.

She was known for caring for countless strays over the years, as well as cats and many Pomeranian dogs.

Survivors include her children: Marita Hampton, Clarksville, Ark., Milan Birney, Clarksville, Ark., Marc Birney and wife, Rita, Sublette, and Max Birney and wife, Jillae, Olathe; grandchildren: Carrie Jo Battles, Clarksville, Ark., Jamie Battles, Clarksville, Ark., Russell Hampton and companion, Savanah, Clarksville, Ark., Misty Hubbard and husband John, Russellville, Ark., Desirae Jaso and husband, David, Satanta, Coty Birney and companion, Laurie Meadows, Satanta, Buck Birney and wife, RaeLynn, Wichita, Bryce Birney and wife, Stephanie, Dodge City, Jinae Krieshok and husband, Benj, Olathe, Robert Birney, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Dr. Jalee Birney of Temple, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Marla Birney; and brother, Gerald Reiss.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2026 at Sublette United Methodist Church in Sublette, with Rev. Dr. Kyle Woodrow presiding.

Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery.
