ULYSSES – Leonard Rempel Goossen, 76, died Monday, June 3, 2024 at Western Prairie Senior Living in Ulysses.
He was born March 6, 1948 to Ben and Clara Rempel Goossen.
He married Bertha Toews Oct. 18, 1970. She survives.
His enthusiasm for watchmaking began as a teenager. He completed a course of study in watchmaking when he was 19, enabling him to make clock and watch repair the highlight of his career. Sowing wheat in the fall of the year and the subsequent harvest reflected his love of nature.
Upon hearing the call of the Lord, he accepted Christ as his Savior. He was baptized by his uncle, Walter Goossen, Feb. 15, 1960 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He was ordained into the deaconry in 1989, and this path was as varied as it was fulfilling. Serving in the community, in the home congregation, or on conference boards showcased his kindness and hospitality.
Survivors also include five children: Timothy and wife, Lucinda Goossen, Warren and wife, Melanie Goossen, Lonnie and wife, Rebekah Goossen, Janell and husband, Verle Koehn, and Loretta and husband, Todd Nichols; twin brother, Lloyd Goossen; brothers, Alvin Goossen and LeRoy Goossen; sister, Ileen Peters; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marita Beth Goossen; and brother, Paul Goossen.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Grant Mennonite Church in Ulysses, with Minister Denton Koehn, Minister Stuart Jantzen and Minister Robert Goossen presiding.
Burial will follow at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery in Ulysses.
