ULYSSES – Lavonne Michael, 89, died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 11, 1934 to Ottis William and Thelma May (Cochran) Reese.
She married James “Mike” Michael April 21, 1953. He preceded her in death in 2019.
She worked as a radar operator stationed at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
She taught school in Denver. After completing her teaching contract, the family moved to Ulysses in 1973.
She was the Director of Grant County Senior Center for 46 years.
She lived to help people and enjoyed sharing her produce from her large garden.
Survivors include sons, Anthony Michael and Troy Michael; grandchildren, Curtis and Kara; and three great-grandchildren: Victor, Hugo, and Lucia.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, with Pastor Casey Chapman presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.
