Those looking to continue filling up their bookshelves will soon have just that opportunity thanks to Liberal Memorial Library.

The 2024 fall book sale will start Tuesday and run through Saturday, Nov. 16 during library hours. Tuesday through Thursday, items will be priced at $1 and paperbacks at $0.50, and Friday and Saturday will be $1/bag and $2/box days.

Liberal Memorial Library Director Royce Kitts said participation in the past couple sales has been great.

“Our fall book sales are always really popular with patrons and members of the community. We get a lot of donations this time of year and the book sale helps to find these donations new homes,” Kitts said. “In fact, last year’s  fall book sale paid for one of our summer reading performers and a staff appreciation day. Then, the spring book sale this year was a good chance for people to get started on spring cleaning. We had a lot of computers for sale at the spring book sale and plan to have quite a few computers available this time as well. They are a bit old, but have a few more useful years left and are priced to reflect this approaching end of computer life.”

Kitts added there is a lot to be excited about with the sale.

“The most exciting thing is getting older books new homes. and this year, we are knee deep in children’s books for the book sale. Our staff feels very relaxed about the upcoming book sale as we anticipate a pretty smooth sale this year,” Kitts said. “Also, books are just awesome, and there are quite a few nuggets in this sale. For pennies on the dollar, you can add some really good titles to your personal collection, or even start a Little Free Library in your neighborhood. The book sale comes at the end of a long process of evaluating our collection and determining what is still being used and what needs to make way for new stuff. For me, the chance to give a book a new home is what I enjoy.”

Overall, Kitts said, he hopes to see another successful sale.

“Our hope this that we generate enough income to pay for at least one summer reading performer. This typically runs $500 a performer, and this sale would help greatly with that,” Kitts said. “Come on down – bring the kids, bring the teens. There is something for everyone at this year's book sale.”
