K-State Research and Extension Wild West Extension District – Stevens County
A corn and sorghum production meeting will be in Hugoton Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at the 4-H building, 1130 S. Trindle, on the Stevens County Fairgrounds.
The free agronomy informational meeting is sponsored by K-State Research and Extension and American Implement of Hugoton.
Topics and speakers will include:
• Dryland Crop Rotations for Corn & Sorghum: Dr. Logan Simon, Southwest area agronomist from the Garden City KSU experiment station.
• Soil Fertility for Corn & Sorghum: Dr. Dorivar Ruiz Diaz, KSU Extension Soil Fertility Specialist from Manhattan.
• Weed management: Dr. Jeremy Kouame, KSU Weed Scientist and associate professor from Hays.
• Insect Pest Management: Anthony Zukoff, KSU Extension Entomologist from Garden City.
• Disease Management: Dr. Rodrigo Borba Onofre, KSU Row Crop Pathologist from Manhattan.
Discussion will include the latest facts and recommendations on control of corn leafhoppers and corn stunt disease which was found in Southwest Kansas corn fields in 2024.
A Mexican buffet lunch will be provided courtesy of American Implement of Hugoton.
This meeting is part of a series of winter agronomy schools across the state of Kansas. Corn & Sorghum schools will also be in Tribune and Pratt Feb. 3 and 5 respectively. Information will be tailored to meet producers needs in their particular region.
