Three individuals, including a Kismet man, suffered suspected serious and minor injuries in an accident Tuesday afternoon in eastern Seward County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 2008 Chevy Silverado was traveling southbound on Road O and failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle, a 2024 Kia Carnival, near the U.S. Highway 54 intersection with that road.
KHP said the Kia struck the pickup in the passenger side of the bed. The Silverado came to rest facing northwest in the south ditch, and the Carnival came to race facing northeast, partially in the south ditch.
The pickup’s driver, 27-year-old David Klassen of Kismet, suffered a suspected minor injury. He was not taken to a hospital for that injury, according to KHP.
The Kia’s driver, Hetvi S. Bhakta, 30, of Marion, and a passenger, 59-year-old Sudhirbhai P. Bhakta of Artesia, N.M., were taken to Southwest Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
KHP said both drivers and the passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
