Cimarron National Grassland
PUEBLO, Colo. — The Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands’ land management plan revision team will host a three-part webinar series for the public.
Participants will gain an understanding of the grasslands plan revision process and timeline, receive an overview of the assessment documents, and learn how to participate in the planning process.
Nine virtual Microsoft Teams meetings in August and September make up this three-part series. Each webinar series covers identical topics offered on various dates and times.
During the assessment phase, forest and grassland specialists rapidly evaluate existing ecological, social and economic conditions and trends to help articulate the need to change the plan.
Additionally, specialists simultaneously inventory areas within the grasslands that may have “wilderness characteristics,” evaluate and classify rivers as part of a Wild and Scenic River eligibility study and determine if there are species of conservation concern for long-term survival in the area.
Comments on the draft assessment can also be submitted for 30 days from Aug. 11 through Sept. 11. Comments can be submitted electronically to
Forest and grassland specialists started the process to revise the current land management plan in October 2023. The revision process includes three main steps: the assessment, the draft and final plan development and environmental analysis, and the objections process and final decision.
The Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands are currently in the assessment step and are anticipated to conclude the revision process in May 2027.
The current land management plan for the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands was signed in 1984. Land management plans guide the management and protection of natural resources on national forests and grasslands to maintain healthy ecosystems and support sustainable uses.
The assessment documents, webinar schedule, frequently asked questions, and more information about the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands are on the plan revision webpage.
