An Illinois man could be facing a life sentence after jurors in Texas County, Okla., recently convicted him this week on charges stemming from a vehicle pursuit and crash in May 2024.

A press release from the District One Narcotics Force said jurors were called Monday to serve on the case against 39-year-old Isaac Lawrence of Madison, Ill., and over two days, prosecutors presented a case resulting in a conviction and potential life sentence.

“During the trial, First Assistant District Attorney Taos Smith and Assistant District Attorney Zach Simmons offered evidence and questioned witnesses in an arrest originated by the District One Narcotics Force,” the release said.

The release also said charges alleged Lawrence was stopped for a traffic violation near Goodwell, Okla., before fleeing the scene and leading officers on a pursuit reaching speeds of 140 miles per hour.

“The pursuit ended when Lawrence’s vehicle collided with another vehicle at U.S. Highway 54 and Main Street in Guymon, injuring a local driver as she headed to work,” the release said.

The release said witnesses testified after collision, Lawrence fled the scene on foot and was apprehended about a block away.

“During a search of the vehicle, officers located 16 pound of methamphetamine inside the vehicle,” the release said. “Evidence was also presented that Lawrence had eight prior felony convictions that included drug and weapons charges.”

The release said after hearing the evidence, the jury deliberated and found Lawrence guilty of and recommended sentencing on the charges of:

• Aggravated trafficking of an illegal drug – up to life in prison;

• Eluding or attempting to elude a police officer – up to life in prison;

• Leaving the scene of an injury accident – up to 25 years in prison;

• Possessing a controlled substance without a tax stamp – up to 20 years in prison; and

• Obstructing a law enforcement officer – one year in the county jail.

The release said District Judge John Parsley has ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set Lawrence to be sentenced in January 2026.
