Special to the Leader & Times

Long-time local pilot Jim Floyd has been selected to received the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.

Basic requirements to receive the award include having 50 or more years of pilot experience and no license revocations.

While most of Floyd’s piloting experience was as an agricultural aviator, he also did charter flights, flight instruction and aircraft delivery.

While on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, he served as an air traffic controller in an interesting aviation environment at Edwards Air Force Base. He also witnessed the last flight of the B-70 and the X-15.

The awards ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 21 in the Mid-America Air Museum theater, and the presentation will be made by FAA representative Richard Stevens.

The public is invited to attend.
