The Liberal Area Coalition for Families joined the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas initiative through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) in 2017.
Pathways is the largest community grant initiative ever funded by BCBSKS combining community-wide, evidence-based solutions and practices to help Kansas communities improve active living, healthy eating and commercial tobacco prevention.
The staff at Liberal Memorial Library has been keeping extremely busy this summer with its summer reading program activities and events, and the program officially wrapped up last week.
And as the library’s staff tells it, everything ended up very positively.
Following a national search and interview process to find a candidate for a new position, officials with Seward County Community College hired one of their own.
Dr. Amber Jones was recently named the school’s new Vice President of Career Technical Education (CTE). Jones has served as SCCC’s dean of industrial technology and for the past year, she served as dean of CTE, combining oversight of the college’s industrial technology and Allied Health divisions.
Seward County Community College has named Ronnie Palmer as Associate Vice President of Athletics, announced SCCC President Brad Bennett. The role expands upon the athletic director position, with an emphasis on the college’s forward momentum.
“SCCC is currently focused on growth across all departments, and recognizes athletics plays a valuable role for our campus and the community,” Bennett said. “Ronnie brings 27 years of athletic experience from community colleges to universities. It will be fun to watch him implement his vision and knowledge to help further improve our athletic department.”
Kindergarten is a major time of transition in a child’s life and education, and soon, USD 480 will be helping with just that.
USD 480 is currently taking sign-ups for the Kinder Camp for the Class of 2037, and sign-ups will be taken through July 25. Kinder Camp will take place Aug. 1 and 2, with a morning session from 8 to 11 a.m. and an afternoon session from 12 to 3 p.m., and Kinder Camp will be located at whichever elementary school the child will be enrolled in. As Newcomers Center Coordinator Noemi Chavira tells it, Kinder Camp is a very good experience.
