Carson Peters threw three touchdowns to three different receivers and Jhett Huffman racked up 239 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns as the Turpin Cardinals cruised to a 50-12 win over the Pond Creek-Panthers, earning a first-round home playoff game along the way.
The Cardinals took a 22-0 lead early in the second quarter and extended their lead to 42-6 at the half. The first-team offense added another TD on the first drive of the second half to go up 50-6 and Cardinal backups took care of things the rest of the way.
The Turpin offense cranked out four hundred yards of offense on just forty offensive plays. Peters completed 10 of 13 passes for 201 yards with touchdown passes to Huffman, Elijah Garcia, and Gage Peters. Huffman averaged fifteen yards per touch on his sixteen carries/catches.
The Turpin defense held Pond Creek-Hunter to 245 yards and nine first downs, much of it well after the game had been decided. The Cardinal defense also forced an interception, a fumble, and six tackles for loss.
Jaxon Lehnert totaled eleven tackles, two for a loss; Riley Fowler finished with ten tackles, Ryder Ireland had seven with two for a loss, Elijah Garcia totaled seven with one for a loss as did Logan Ratzlaff, and Jhett Huffman had four and an interception. Mason Nelson had for and a fumble recovery.
No. 3 Turpin (8-1; 4-1) finishes the regular season in second place in District B-1 behind only top-ranked Laverne. The Cardinals will host Waurika in the first round of the playoffs, Friday at 7 p.m.
Thank you for the great article, Turpin Football is having a tremendous season. I would just like to make one correction, my kid's name is not Elijah Garcia his name is Elijah Navarro.
