After struggling on the mound for the first four games of the season, the Redskins pitchers had a better performance against Hugoton Friday at the National Beef Sports Complex.

The Redskins swept a double header over Hugoton to move to 2-4 on the season.

Eathan Hernandez and Landon Martinez each had triples to help the Redskins earn a 23-8 win in Game 1.

Skylar Hubbard and Alex Schwindt each had a double.

Liberal put the game out of reach early with a 10-run first inning.

Hugoton scored three runs in the top of the second against Hubbard to cut the lead to 10-3, but the Redskins scored two more in the bottom half of the frame to take a 12-3 lead.

The Eagles pushed five across the plate in the third against Hubbard and Austin Dodge before Hernandez took the mound and shut down the Eagles.

Liberal scored four more in the third to take a 16-8 lead, and after Hernandez tossed a shutout fourth, the Redskins pushed seven runs across the plate to enact the run rule in a 23-8 victory.

Marco Alonso and Martinez each had three hits in the win.

Liberal belted out 16 hits and did not commit an error in the win while Hugoton had six hits and seven errors.

In Game 2, Alonso pitched four shutout innings, and Dodge closed out the game with two shutout innings for a 10-0 Redskin win.

Ethan Olmstead had two doubles and a stolen base to go along with three hits to lead the Redskins at the plate.

Hubbard and Xavier Porras each had two hits.

Liberal scored one in the first and one in the third before blowing the game open with six in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.

Neither team scored in the fifth, and the Redskins scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game by run rule, 10-0.

Alonso allowed three hits, walked one and struck out nine in four innings, and Dodge didn’t allow a hit in the final two innings while striking out one.

Liberal hosts Garden City at 4 p.m. today.
