Austin Dodge hit an in-the-park home run to highlight a double-header opening win against Garden City Tuesday, but the Redskins could not sustain the offense in Game 2 and split the twin bill with a 7-3 loss.

Garden City took an early lead in Game 1 by pushing two runs across the plate in the first inning and five more in the top of the second.

But the Redskins responded with five runs in the bottom half of the second to cut the lead to 7-5, and after Garden City added a run in the top of the third, the Redskins erupted for 13 runs in the third inning to take an 18-8 lead.

The Redskins added two more in the fourth, and after Skylar Hubbard relieved Eathan Hernandez in the third inning and pitched three scoreless innings, the Redskins came away with the 20-8 run-rule win.

Hubbard had four hits and an RBI in the win. Ethan Olmstead had three hits and the RBIs.

Dodge had two hits including an in-the-park home run and three RBIs.

Liberal had a 2-1 lead after two inning in Game 2, but the Buffaloes pushed four runs across the plate in the third to take a 5-2 lead.

Liberal added a run in the bottom of the third, but that was all the offense the Redskins provided, and the Buffaloes added a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to hand the Redskins a 7-3 loss.

Xavier and Porras each had a double in the loss.

Liberal moved to 3-5 after the double header and will host Goddard Eisenhower Tuesday.
