On a blustery day, the Liberal Lady Red soccer team battled the Great Bend Panthers and came out on top with a dominant 2-0 victory.

The scoring began in the 24th minute of the first half when Ana Vela delivered a precise pass to Lily Santiago who found the back of the net to give Liberal the early lead.

The Lady Red defense held strong, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, with 26 minutes remaining, freshman standout Liliana Guy connected with Vela, who struck a powerful shot from outside the box for the final goal of the game.

The Lady Red controlled possession and tempo throughout, firing 22 shots on goal compared to Great Bend’s 0.

The Panthers spent most of the match on the defensive, rarely crossing into Liberal’s half.

Great Bend’s strategy was to stack the backline and play all-out defense in an effort to limit the damage. However, even with the crowded backfield, the Lady Red found a way to break through.

Liberal improved to 6-2 on the season and will be back on the road Tuesday to take on Dodge City.
