After starting the season with a record 13 straight games, the Liberal Redskins finally hit the road Saturday and traveled to the opposite corner of the state for a pair of games in Olathe.

But the team’s fortune did not improve with two losses.

Liberal struggled at the plate and on the field in an 11-0 loss to Olathe West.

Alex Schwindt got the start on the mound, but he allowed 10 runs, only six of those earned, while walking three and allowing eight hits in three innings. He also allowed a home run.

Ethan Olmstead came in relief in the fourth inning and allowed one unearned run on two walks and no hits while striking out two.

The Redskins did not get a hit or a walk in the run-rule shortened 11-0 loss.

The Redskins also committed four errors.

Liberal had a more competitive game against Olathe East but still fell 4-1.

Marco Alonso took the mound for the Redskins and allowed four runs on three hits and two walks in three innings while striking out two.

Blayden Betts relieved Alonso to start the fourth inning, and he pitched three scoreless innings and only allowed one hit and four walks while striking out one.

The Redskins scored a run in the sixth when Austin Dodge crossed the plate, but that is the only run the Redskins were able to score in the 4-1 loss.

Olmstead, Schwindt, Dodge and Kye Morris each had a hit. No Redskin earned a walk in either game.

The loss dropped the Redskins to 4-11 on the season.

Liberal will remain on the road today when they travel to Garden City (4-8) for a single game with the Buffaloes. Liberal and Garden City split a double header earlier this season, and this game will break the season tie.

After playing 13 games at home to start the season, the Redskins are now in a 10-game road slate and will not return home until May 13 against Dodge City.
