The Seward County Lady Saints lost an overtime battle on the road at the Colby Event Center on Sunday afternoon, falling 74-67 to the Colby Trojans.
Seward (14-6, 9-5 KJCCC) looks to bounce back at Coffeyville on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Colby (11-9, 8-6) won its second straight game and its fifth out of six.
Seward trailed to start the game falling behind 8-0 but the Lady Saints used a 24-12 run to close the quarter and lead 24-20 after one. They took a 36-30 lead to halftime.
Colby outscored Seward 18-10 in the third quarter taking a 48-46 lead to the fourth.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter. Seward had multiple leads in the quarter and Avery Marchino hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 60 with 1:43 to play. Those were the final points of regulation.
Destiny Alexander converted two free throws for the first points of overtime. Avery Marchino went 1-2 from the line to put Seward ahead 63-62 at the 3:05 mark but Colby scored the next six points taking a 68-63 lead with 1:32 to play. It was the Trojans biggest lead since the first quarter. Seward’s lone basket of overtime was a Trinitee Holmes layup with 23.1 seconds to play but the Lady Saints were outscored 14-7 in the period.
Avery Marchino totaled 21 points to go with nine rebounds. Trinitee Holmes had 15 points, a career-high. Kimora Fagan finished with 10.
